Once again, we check in with our stalwart and often busy DJs to see what they’re getting up to when we don’t hear them on the air. And away…we…go….
In the past month alone they’ve released new albums from Australian R&B/soul band, New Venusians (http://freshselects.bandcamp.com/album/new-venusians), and L.A.-by-way-of-Philadelphian rap duo lojii & Swarvy (http://freshselects.bandcamp.com/album/due-rent), as well as the debut single from Norwegian jazz/soul singer, Charlotte Dos Santos (http://soundcloud.com/freshselects/charlotte-dos-santos-red-clay).
As if that wasn’t enough to keep you busy catching up on tunes for the next few days, they’ll be topping it all off with the debut full-length from noted jazz-saxophonist-turned-R&B-singer, Braxton Cook (http://freshselects.bandcamp.com/album/somewhere-in-between), this coming Thursday, 4/13. You can find all of these releases (and more!) on Fresh Selects’ Bandcamp page (http://freshselects.bandcamp.com) or you stream them below in this convenient Spotify playlist:
Nathan Wright, one of the hardworking board operators that strive to keep our shows running smooth as can be, spends some of his off hours pounding the drums in a groovy, sexy outfit known as Tigers On Opium. The band is gearing up to release a new cassette and are going to celebrate that with a release show happening this Friday April 14th at The Know. The band will be joined by Hot Won’t Quit, another delightful Portland band releasing a new tape, and the perfectly named band Dad Works Hard.
If you like what DJ Folklore does every Sunday morning from 10-11am on Chauncy Pops, just wait until you hear what he has in store for you when he takes to the wheels of steel at Kelly’s Olympian this Tuesday, April 11th starting at 8pm. And if you’ve never heard Chauncy Pops, click the image below and listen to the most recent episode. You will not be disappointed.
And if you make it over to Dig A Pony this week, you’ll, as usual, be able to hear some selections from the XRAY DJs you know and love. That includes tonight March 10th when DJ Bad Wizard, host of Sunday’s inimitable Inside The Wizard’s Hat, will be on hand from 9pm on spinning ’50s and ’60s soul & rock, or this Thursday from 5-7:30pm when DJ Bob Ham, the man behind Double Bummer every Friday night, takes the helm to play outlaw country, power pop and garage rock.
