Released earlier this month on Voodoo Doughnut Recordings was Rough Roads, the debut release from Top Down. The multinational band—drummer Fiona Campbell hails from New Zealand, guitarist/vocalist szim is from Germany, and bassist/vocalist Chuck Struggler is from the U.S.—formed right here in Portland and fell under the able tutelage of Dead Moon’s Fred Cole (winner, with his wife Toody, of the Pillars of Portland Punk Award at this year’s XRAY Awards), who helped record this fresh full-length at his Tombstone Studios. The results are tasty, raw garage pop with plenty of tossed off attitude and aching spirit. Check out their track “The Tunnel” right here and keep an ear out for their tunes on the airwaves at XRAY!
